INTRODUCTION

VICTERS (Versatile ICT Enabled Resource for Students) is an edutainment channel in Malayalam language operated by KITE under the Department of General and Higher Education (Kerala) and is wholly owned by the Government of Kerala. The channel is headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

KITE is the nodal agency for implementing the EDUSAT network and runs VICTERS, the exclusive channel for education which is aired from 6am to 11pm. India's epoch making first broadband network on EDUSAT for schools, VICTERS inaugurated by A P J Abdul Kalam, the president of India, on 28 July 2005 in Thiruvananthapuram.[1] The telecast of programs started in August 2006 through the assistance of EDUSAT network. The channel is telecasted for 17 hours a day from 6 am to 11 pm. VICTERS offers interactive virtual classrooms that enable the school students as well as the teachers to directly communicate with the subject experts and educationists. It also ensures the dissemination of high quality education to the students and teachers from the original source.

AIM: To provide telecasting of educationally related programmes to students and teachers of Kerala.

ORIGIN: EDUSAT(GSAT-3)To meet demand for interactive satellite based distance education system for country. It is a communication satellite launcehs by ISRO on 20 September 2004.

 It is built exclusively to serve the education sector.It revolutionised the classroom based teaching using IP based technology.

KITE (Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education)

·       It is a former IT@School Project. It is a state owned Special Purpose company under Education Department, Government of Kerala and has been developed to support ICT enabled education at school.

·       It is funded by KIIFB(Kerala Infrastructure and Investment Fund Board). KITE is the first special purpose vehicle to get funded by KIIFB.

·       KITE is the nodal agency for implementing EDUSAT Network and runs this exclusive channel for Education,VICTERS.

 

VICTERS

Victers was inaugurated by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on 28 July 2005 in Thiruvananthapuram.

It was officially inaugurated by the then Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri V.S Achuthanandan on 3rd August 2006.

In Kerala, the VICTERS Programs telecast started in August 2006 through the assistance of EDUSAT network 17 hours a day from 6 am to 11pm.

OBJECTIVE

Ø To create a new classroom environment using visuals like animation, graphics, talks of subject experts etc.

Ø To offer interactive virtual classrooms.

Ø To bring about change in teacher student relationship.

Ø To  make a huge information gateway to students, making learning useful and interesting.

Ø Main intention is to meet the demand for an interactive satellite based distance education system for the country.

Ø To aid the development of the population in remote and rural locations.

Ø To cater students and teachers on a need based manner ,and programs to be aired on demand, sensitive to school curriculum.

Ø Enable school students as well as teachers to directly communicate with subject experts and educationists.

Ø Dissemination of high quality education to students and teachers from original source.

 

VICTERS HAS TWO MODES

1.   Interactive Mode

2.   Non Interactive Mode

 

1.   Interactive Mode

·       For video conferencing and other such educational training purposes.

·       95 satellite interactive terminals(SITS). Islands like Lakshadweep is connected with this network.

 

2.     Non Interactive Mode

·       For educational content delivery at schools and home via ROTs (Receive only Terminal) and local cable network.

 

CONCLUSION

Kerala has created history by launching an educational channel for students and teachers of Kerala.

VICTERS is India’s first educational channel entirely for educational purposes. This is facilitated through EDUSAT network.
